They are different in smell, texture and chemical formula.
The old Lowila from Westwood had a vaguely floral or citrus smell, and a fairly hard texture. There was nothing else like it on the market (as far as I know). It's formula was dextrin, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, water, boric acid, etc.
This new lowila from Ranbaxy has a waxy/rubbery smell, and a soft waxy texture. It's formula is sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, maltodextrin, PEG-6, etc. I would say it resembles Cetaphil cleansing bar, Dove beauty bar, and Phisoderm facial cleansing bar.
I used to love the old Lowila, but I don't like this new version at all.I used Lowila for the last 30 years. I was always able to special order thru Wallgreens but found out they do not carry anymore. I find out thru internet search that a new lab was making it same name but box is different color.
Well DO NOT BUY because it is sooo different it smells like ivory soap super strong and burns the eyes so it is burning my skin.
The ORIGINAL Lowila you could open your eyes and never burned it was so mild.
So until someone makes it with the same ingrediants I would not buy if you have sensitive skin.I had bought Lowila or Lowilla beauty bar for many years as it always worked wonderfully for my complexion. Then it gradually disappeared from the marketplace. I was able to buy it on-line occasionally, and then once for an outrageous price. I tried to find a replacement but nothing worked as well. Then I looked on-line again and found Lowila under a new company name, but still the same bar and ingredients list and so I bought it. I hope it remains available, because it was able to help me maintain a clear complexion for all these years and now that I am older I will need it even more.

I have extrememly sensitive skin & skin allergies. I LOVED the old Lowila! When I could no longer find it, I began a quest to find an alternative. I spent many years going to the dermatologist & did not want to repeat that with a product I had a reaction to. Sisley Botanical Soapless Facial Cleansing Bar is what I've now been using for years (note "soapless" just like Lowila was originally). Yes, it is pricey, but about the same as a co-pay for the dermatologist! Highly recommend Sisley Botanical Soapless Facial Cleansing Bar for anyone who loved the old Lowila.Want Lowila Care 3 Pack Discount?
Years ago, I was told to start using Lowilla by my dermatologist to prevent dry skin from soap. It was relatively easy to find back then (although it was still pricy). Over the years, the price crept up and the places to buy it seemed to disappear. Finally, last year, I gave up looking since every regular source went dry (pun intended). This new source (Amazon) is welcome. The soap smells and feels different but it seems to be effective at helping prevent the drying effects of regular soaps.
I have used this new Lowilla for a month and think it's OK. It really is expensive but I will keep using it until something better comes along.
