American Crew Thickening Shampoo 8.45 oz.

American Crew Thickening Shampoo 8.45 oz.I have been using "organic" shampoos which are "paraben-free" and have enjoyed some of the results: particularly ones' containing "pure" jojoba oil/extract. I had an old bottle (5/6 years) of American Crew thickening shampoo that I decided to use. I was astounded at the quality of this shampoo! I am of African (mixed with Scottish) decent and have wooly (slightly wavy) hair. The first thing I noticed after using this shampoo was its' fantastic (personal taste, of course) fragrance! The second thing I noticed after using this shampoo was its' amazing moisturizing abilities! There has not yet been any shampoo (I've used dozens over the years) which even comes close to this shampoo; both in longevity of scent AND moisturization. The only problem is that I have read about the potential dangers of some of the ingredients which are in this shampoo: parabens, for instance. Other than that, I would have given this a 5-star rating!

I tried that thing about a year ago when I had shoulder-length hair, on advice of a hair stylist. The shampoo is very nice: while more expensive than H&S kind of stuff, still it isn't all that costly, it smells good, lathers up well (well, it's SLS), leaves hair squeeky clean, all's good. It doesn't thicken anything of course (how can you thicken hair, think of it?) but overall I liked it quite a bit -until about a month into using it two-three times a week, I noticed that it gave me something that I can only characterise as a plague. It did something awful with my scalp. I quit immediately, and the trouble subsided, but never went away totally. I shaved my head and used a multitude of different shampoos, conditioners, moisturisers and what not, and still I had some sort of ever shifting, pale pink/purple blotches on my head that itched and flaked somewhat. Some things were more helpful, some less, but again, nothing healed this problem until I tried (hard to believe this thing: you'll never guess) apple vinegar. I accidentally bumped into a mention of this online while looking for something unrelated and decided to try: my scalp cleared up upon the very first applicaton, within minutes. So, my guess is, scalp likes to be slightly acidic, and this PoS here probably raises pH. And no wonder, look at the ingredients: parabens, SLS, what have you. Everyone's different of course, but my suggestion is, stay away, or at least be careful and test first.

PS. Btw, the most soft and unobnoxious kind of shampoo I discovered -quite strange again -was tar-based shampoos. T/gel or anything like it. Anti-intuitive ('cause tar sounds nasty and you feel it's gonna eat through your skin like Alien's drool through steel doors), but this kind actually is quite soft and non-drying.
