Motions Naturally You, Radiating Hair Gloss, 5.8 Ounce

Motions Naturally You, Radiating Hair Gloss, 5.8 OunceFirst, let me throw out a few caveats:

* Motions hair products are generally marketed towards women of color, and people with similar hair care needs, i.e. African American and multi-racial hair types. I have seen many of their products to do with chemical straightening, but since I havent done that in years, I've never tried any of them before this.

* This product is not appropriate for all hair types, or in the same amounts. The thinner and straighter your hair is, the less you use. It may not be useful for your hair at all. Always start with less, see how it goes.

* How much you use very much depends on the nature and texture of your hair, and what style you are looking for. NaturallyCurly.com types my hair as 3B/C so I can only tell you how it worked for me the two ways I used it. Your hair is probably different.

* I can see how some hair types would immediately become a greasy mess for those, it is definitely a case of 'less is more' and only the smallest amount should be used for shine, if at all.

* The product suggests daily use... take that with a grain of salt. Applying a mix of alcohols and oils to your hair daily might not be appropriate for all hair types.

I have used similar 'gloss' type serums on my hair, particularly for flat iron styles. If you are not familiar with these, they are typically lightweight oil-based moisturizers that lend a sheen to hair, but not necessarily moisture. It does offer some minor protection from flat iron styling.

I don't consider this to be a moisturizer, but a styling tool for heat-based (thermal) styling. That means flat/tourmaline irons, high heat (non diffuser) blow drying, curling irons and hot sets. While I found the product appropriate for this use, especially when coupled with Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion, it's not for all styles.

I started my test off by going to ground zero shampoo and wash with Pantene Smooth shampoo and conditioner for thick hair, cause that's what I have. Then I applied the gloss to my still wet hair, which is how I normally go about my normal 'drip-dry' style. I have a LOT of hair, long, and all of it ringlet-curly. Whatever you are imagining right now, double that Troy Polamalu would go 'Damn girl, that's a lot of hair!'. I used a generous amount, several pumps of the product worked between my palms then smoothed through my hair in sections and finger combed.

I followed this with the Motions foaming wrap lotion, same method of application. I was not expecting it to rival the control and definition of my normal combination of Pantene Pro-V Curly Mousse and Shea Moisture Conditioning Curl Milk (a combination meant to support a wash and wear style that does not require heat or any other styling), and it indeed did not.

What I expected is that it would leave my hair in a state ready for thermal styling with a tourmaline flat iron. Which is exactly what both products claim to do. Straight, my hair would certainly feel too greasy if I applied the gloss except in the smallest amount. If I used even my normal styling products, and then flat ironed my hair, they would feel far too heavy and greasy Different styles call for different products.

As it is, this provided a very nice pre-ironed state. My hair was not weighed down in the least, making for a much pouffier mane than I normally have. It had the ringlets in a bright shine, and was ridiculously soft and touchable! Yet, it had enough definition and hold to not friz out, at least in winter weather. I wouldn't try this in the height of a mid-atlantic summer when I would probably not flat iron at all, or use a heavier moisturizer like Shea Moisture.

I would not use this product in my hair for frizz control alone... it is too lightweight and would not be up to the task with my hair type. This product may provide too much oil for many hair types. However, it may not be enough for other hairs which need a heavier product to do the same job.

I was told many years ago, that one way to tame my crazy, frizzy, cowlicked hair is with products made for "natural" hair, and I have found this to be true. I have thick blonde hair that also tends to look dull. I have used regular serums, but had trouble getting it to spread throughout my hair. This product works better. I could never use 2 or 3 pumps though, one pump in my palm, rub my hands together and then rub into my dried hair and I get the control I need. I also like the shine I get from using it, and I have gotten compliments after using it.

This product says it is made for all hair types. I don't think I am the average Type. My hair is very thin, very gray and very fine. I used this to bring some moisture to my very dry hair. Hair that grew back after chemo treatments. It did make my hair glossy and shiny, however, I use it only when I plan on being home, as it is too oily to wear all day. I used only one pump and that was more than enough to cover my long, thin hair. I thought that I would have to use a paper towel to get the oil off of my hands, but there was an extra

benefit for me. The extra oil was soaked right into my skin and very quickly dried on my hands. Soft hands, shiny hair, it works for me as an overnight moisture treatment.

I tried this hair gloss because it looked like it had good stuff in it, like shea butter and coconut oil. My hair is thick and coarse and has lots of body, so I like to use products that will help with control and frizz, and give it a little shine. This gloss seemed very greasy when I pumped it into my hand, but I tried it anyway. I used one pump, as I don't want my hair to be greasy. I rubbed it in while my hair was damp, and later noticed a little extra sheen. When I washed my hands, I used soap three times, and eventually resorted to apple cider vinegar to get the grease off my hands.

I'll try it again, but I'm not impressed so far. Instead, I would recommend Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Serum, 4 oz or Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum -4 fl oz.
