Trader Joe's SPA Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil

Trader Joe's SPA Face Wash with Tea Tree OilI have used this product for 3 months now. I live in Arizona and my skin is either dry to normal/oily based on the season. Generally, I have lovely skin, but when that "time" comes around I get HUGE cystic pimples (2-3 at a time). They are extremely painful and last for a week or more.

Since I have been using this product (once a day in the shower) I have had exactly one cystic pimple. I now swear by this product and strongly suggest that you give it a try as well...and for around $5 a bottle, what have you got to lose?

To preface... I have VERY sensitive, acne-prone skin... This product is awesome! I used it for the first time about a year ago and liked that it cleaned my face well, it wasn't drying, improved the overall tone of my skin, and helped with breakouts (rarely have issues now). I don't live by a Trader Joe's anymore, and when I ran out of this stuff my skin instantly broke out. I tried a few of my old washes.. Neutrogena, Panoxyl, nothing helped... I even tried buying a tea tree face wash from the natural foods store in town, but none of it helped. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to order it! Now I make sure I always have a backup.

Pros

natural ingredients

CHEAP, about $5

works amazing

doesn't dry it out

smells good... if you like tea tree oil. I do :)

The ONLY con

it does burn the heck out of your eyes (I use the Trader Joe's jojoba oil afterwards to remove eye makeup)

This cleanser doesn't mess around! It has a nice cooling-effect during use, which I would describe it as 'strong', but not 'harsh'. If you have oily skin, it will control excess oil nicely; it would definitely be too intense of a cleanser for anyone with even slightly dry skin, and definitely too intense to use more than once a day.

The first time I used it, I put it on my whole face, and my cheeks were extremely dry afterward. Now I only use it on my T-zone (the only area where I get oily) & for that area it works great! I agree with another commenter, that after the first few days of use, I got a couple of larger zits on my chin (where I don't tend to get them), but those healed quickly & I haven't gotten any there since. Perhaps when I first started using it, the cleanser was purging all the deeper stuff lurking beneath the surface? I can't say, but once I got past those initial few zits, my skin was fine.

The scent is distinctly herbal, yet refreshing: a blend of tea tree, mint & a slightly piney smell. I also find it EXTREMELY effective for use on the back, if you tend to get 'bacne' (The combination of sunscreen & heat usually leaves my back very oily in the summer months, but this has remedied that.) The one thing I wasn't fond of was the consistency, which is completely liquid, NOT a gel-like consistency that most drugstore cleansers have (Perhaps that is why one commenter found it hard to keep out of their eyes? I would recommend trying it on a washcloth for application, so it doesn't 'run').

I started using this product about a month ago. I wanted to give it some time before I wrote a review.

It dried out my face a lot! To the point that it was kind of peeling. Even with using a good moisturizer, it helped, but it stil felt tight and dry.

At first, it broke me out even more so than what I was already, which being someone with acne was disappointing. This has happened to me before, as the saying goes, it gets worse before it gets better sometimes holds true.

Just recently, my face has been starting to clear up. Not completely, but it's getting there... Hopefully the more I use it, the better it will get. If not, I will not be buying anymore of it.

Oh, and it stinks! lol I have used some pretty nasty stuff in the past, I have to say tho, this isn't the worst, lol.

Not good if you have combination skin that is somewhat sensitive. I tried the tea tree cleansing pads for makeup removal and this product (which is much cheaper at TJs like $5), and the next day I broke out badly in places I usually don't have any problem. I will stick to the Organix line, as that is the only thing I've found that works perfectly with my skin http://www.amazon.com/Organix-Natural-Control-System-Teatree/dp/B006567FIS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330089220&sr=8-1 for the record, I am extremely pale of European descent. Different skin types may vary.
