Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Clay Mask, 3.17-Ounce Box

Another reviewer gave this only one star, so I just HAD to put in my review, as I completely disagree. This reviewer said the cleansing mask was not a "wise" investment...NOT because it isn't a good product, but because she thinks it makes more sense to go to a "New Age Bookstore" to BUY all the ingredients, and make it yourself! I guess that MIGHT cost less, IF your TIME is NOT worth $$ to you!! Rather, I prefer to go with Dr. Hauschka's products, which are professionally formulated & produced, and are of consistently high quality.

I've been using this mask for quite some time. I have sensitive skin that is normal to dry as far as oil production. Although this product is made specifically for more blemished skin (for which it works GREAT, by the way), I've found it to NOT be overly-drying to my sensitive skin. Instead, the clay "pulls" impurities out of the pores, gently exfoliates, and leaves my skin feeling AS SOFT AS COULD BE! Whatever cream or other product I put on afterwards seems to absorb better than usual.

Ideally, this mask is meant to be used in combination with DR. HAUSCHKA STEAM BATH (use the STEAM BATH on your face first, then apply the mask and let it dry). However, the MASK can also be used effectively on its own. It takes about 15-20 minutes to dry completely, at which time the face feels very tight, and, to be honest, not that comfortable! But it is at this point that it is ready to be washed off, and your skin feels SO soft and CLEAN!

The generously sized jar will last quite a long time, as you only use a teaspoon or two for each application, about once a week. Note that you will need a shallow cup or tiny bowl to do the mixing (the clay powder is mixed with a SMALL amount of warm water just prior to application).

I look forward to the calming ritual of using this mask one quiet night each week!

This mask was recommended to me by a woman who gives facials in a high end spa. She felt I needed to use a high quality mask weekly to exfoliate my skin and clean my pores. This makes my face look so fresh and pure. It seems to glow afterwards for a couple of days. The best one I've ever used!

i have to say i prefer the 'queen helene' cheap clay masks. you have to mix this & paint it on with a brush. possibly it's just not right for my skin, because it makes my skin red and inflammed afterwards. my facialist told me to keep adding water to it while it's on so it doesn't dry out. that helps, but i just don't love it. i end up with a mess in my bathroom & don't see great results for the price.

Dr. Hauschka's clay mask just isn't a very wise investment. It can be much more cost effective to go to a local New Age bookseller, or any other place that sells loose herbs, as they'll also carry various resins, gums, and clays. Or order online through a place like Mountain Rose Herbs, they have high quality products with good customer service.

Then pick up an ounce or two of some nice french green clay, rhassoul clay, bentonite clay, or fuller's earth clay. All of those types of clay should range anywhere from one to five dollars an ounce.

And finally, store your clay in an airtight jar, then mix a little bit with water anytime you would've wanted to use the Dr. Hauschka clay mask.
