Every Man Jack Pre-Shave Face Wash, Signature Mint 5 oz

Every Man Jack Pre-Shave Face Wash, Signature Mint 5 ozI decided to try this product for its distinct packaging as well the high-quality formulas and natural ingredients touted on the back. It says "NO DYES. NO OILS. NO SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE. NO PHYTHALATES. NO PARABENS. NO ANIMAL TESTING". Also, I like to help out the underdog; EMJ arrived in 2007 from San Francisco under Target's distribution. I compared this to Neutrogena and Nivea (which I'd been using) and both of those companies had several of the above ingredients. Thinking natural was the way to go, I bought this.

I tested this for 2 weeks to see how it fared it with Nivea. I have oily skin with large pores, I exercise every day and eat a balanced diet. I have a daily routine of face wash, toner, and lotion with sunscreen (shave every other day, face scrub once a week ). For this trial, I only switched the face wash and held all other variables constant.

Compared to Nivea, it feels more watery/less viscous/less sudsing, and I needed almost twice as much EMJ face wash to apply to my entire face and neck area. In addition, over the 14 days, EMJ's face wash was unable to prevent no whiteheads from forming (I wanted 14 days to give my skin enough time to reset itself to a different face wash). Although I didn't get as many whiteheads and an oily skin had I not used EMJ (obviously it does some cleaning), it just wasn't powerful enough. If numbers help, Nivea gets a 100 for giving me clear skin (with my daily routine) and zero whiteheads. EMJ gets an 80 for giving me clean'ish skin with 1-2 small whiteheads. Also, EMJ's plastic cap (different bottle then the one pictured here, mine is entirely teal blue on top with a brown cap/bottom) is cheaper in quality and doesn't "lock" as well. I fly frequently and my concern is that with a little nudge the cap will open and the whole bottle will spill in my Dopp kit. Nivea locks very tightly yet is very messy on the inside of the cap whereas EMJ stays clean and dry..trade off?

Conclusion: most likely my skin type needs industrial cleansing so I'll just stick with Nivea's Double Action Face Wash. Despite Nivea not being as high quality and not having environmentally/human-friendly ingredients, it requires a less amount, achieves the results I want, and is also at the $5 mark for 5 fl oz. Using this cost-benefit analysis, I'll stick with Nivea for the face wash but will try EMJ's other products and fit them into my above-mentioned routine using this same testing method. Will write reviews on those once I'm done.

I normally use a face scrub with larger beeds, but this is a nice change. More gentle. The mint fragrance is nice too.

It is hard to find a face wash that doesn't make my face weird by the end of the day... through years of searching the store shelves, and growing more and more complacent i came across this ideal product. This face wash is like no other, it cleans my skin and leaves it feeling fresh and clean (i think the mint is the secret weapon). The consistency is not too runny, or too thick, it is perfect, it feels good all over my face.

Bottle doesn't seal well, so it made a hell of a mess in my travel bag. I like the scent, though not sure if it really adds much to my shave.

Been using this product for about 3 months now. I've used also Nivea for men and a couple different washes by Neutrogena. Out of the handful I've used, EMJ is the most watery. In fact, if I'm not careful, it can squirt out when opening it. Because it's so incredibly thin, I probably use more of the product than I would use on the other ones.

Also, it does not lather at all. It's a weird feeling, because in your head, you know you're using a face wash, but it doesn't feel like it. Because it doesn't lather, I (again) probably use more than I would with the others.

As far as cleaning, I honestly don't feel it's as effective as the couple other I have used. Especially around the nose area where I can tend to get pretty oily.

I like that this is made in the US, that they don't test on animals, they don't have a lot of the junk ingredients, and the price is good ... but I probably won't buy again since the others work a bit better.
