Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner - 12 oz

Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Conditioner - 12 ozIn my quest to use natural beauty products, I have settled on this conditioner as my regular one. Good Points:

1) Free of Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates

2) Paraben AND Pthalate-Free (Hard to Find This!)

3) No residue on my hair I have very fine hair, and this doesn't leave it feeling weighed down or greasy

Bad Points

1) The smell. It is not really pleasant, and borders on being unpleasant. This is the area I can tell the biggest difference between regular brands and natural brands...but it's a smart sacrifice to purchase something that is healthier for me and the environment.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but not the worst either. And because it's mostly natural, I'm sold. I think it does increase the shine of my hair, and it smells decent. I'm no hippy but after reading on the EPA website about what we have in our homes, I don't want toxic stuff around my family, so I will give up the salon brands for health. Babies have died from swallowing beauty products, such as hair conditioner, so this Burt's Bees stuff rocks. I got the "baby bee" baby wash and milk lotion and my daughter's mild excema is completely gone, but like I said it was mild (though VERY persistent).

This shampoo and conditioner combo worked well for me for a few weeks, but then they started leaving this really weird super-greasy spot on the back of my head! And I mean, right after taking a shower too. I'd take a shower in the morning, and in the afternoon would have this greasy spot. It was so greasy that it felt like the hair on the back of my head hadn't dried. I had to ask my husband to look and tell me whether it was wet, or greasy. When I switched to a different shampoo and conditioner, it went away.

That said, it is probably just some weird quirk of my hair type. I have thick, waist-length, type 2a/2b hair going by naturallycurly.com's classifications, prone to frizz and a greasy scalp (but usually it takes 2 days before the greasiness sets in!).

Before the greasy spot started, this combo worked really well, so I'm still giving it 4 stars. My hair felt very soft and it did indeed look shinier. I was sad to have to find something new because it had been working so well.

I was especially happy with this product combo, because it seemed to condition my hair so well that I did not need to follow up with a styling creme or leave-in conditioner. Which is just really unusual for me -I always have to follow up with those things because my hair is so prone to frizz. But I had no frizz while using this combo, it was amazing.

The thing I did not like though, was the scent. It didn't smell bad...but it sure didn't smell good either.

I bought this conditioner (and it's matching shampoo) a few months ago because they were on clearance at Target. I just started using it. However, my hair is SO dry. I decided to stick it out and see if it got better. My hair does look clean for longer than most shampoo/conditions I've used. However, my hair is tangly and dry all the time, including immediately after I get out of the shower. I would not recommend this product. It HURTS to brush my hair and I feel like the damage it is doing to my hair with how hard and dry it has become cannot be outweighed by the fact that it is natural. It does seem like my hair has more body, but I would take soft hair over dry-body any day.

Just for info: I have fine, straight hair. It has never been dry, although every once in awhile it can get oily. It might be better suited for other hair types.

My 10 year old's hair is no longer a tangled mess thanks to this conditioner! It smells lovely, very effective detangling, it isn't greasy. I strongly recommend it to anyone with lots of thick long hair!
