I tried a prescription medication that I can't even remember the name of right now but what I do remember is it making my face completely flaky and red, basically a year-round sun burn that was also extremely painful. In my senior year of high school, I started using this Neutrogena face wash and tea tree oil of all things, 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil + FREE Blemish Roll-on Stick with Tea Tree Oil.
Maybe I was using too many different medications on face or maybe I just grew out of the acne phase, but regardless I would do anything to go back to my freshman year and give my freshman pimple faced self a simple concoction of tea tree oil and Neutrogena face wash. I have used this particular brand of Neutrogena for quite a while now but I have also used their foam acne wash and it worked just as well.
Since I started washing my face each night with the face wash and applying the tea tree oil before going to bed, I have not had one major break out in the past three years. Not one! This is coming from a girl who had acne that could be mistaken for big gross looking blisters all through high school. I love Neutrogena and I love tea tree oil and if you are struggling with acne, once you try them I know you will love them too.I wonder why Neutrogena discontinues the product. I've used this for over 10 years since I was in college, in conjunction with Proactive and they work wonder on my acne prone face. In fact most people now dont't know that I used to have bad acne. Three weeks ago I was out of the product so I went to Wal-Mart to purchase another like I usually do and didn't see it. I thought it was out of stock so I returned few times. I then panicked and went to several other stores (Target, Ulta, Walgreens) and couldn't find it. I then went online and found the bad news.
I'm using the All-in-one from Neutrogena now, but it's not a great substitute. The 3-in-1 is hydrating and has 2% salycic acid as oppose to the less hydrating All-in-1 with 1% salycic acid.
I wish I had known about the discontinuation. I would have stock up 20 or so of them to last me few years until I could find a better substitution.

My skin isn't completely covered in pimples, but I am always breaking out, including those deep, painful ones. I got super diligent about my skincare a few months ago because I was tired of being in my mid-twenties with the skin of a teenager. I tried Proactiv, but I was left with skin that was red, flaky, irritated, and STILL breaking out. Not exactly a great combination. When I first tried this product, I have to admit that I was skeptical because everything else on the market seems to operate under the assumption that it has to be harsh to work. Thankfully Neutrogena made an effective acne product that doesn't leave me red and flaky, even after a few months of use.
Morning: Neutrogena Acne Stress Power Foam Wash and this product. (Also, I use Neutrogena skin soothers stick concealer and L'oreal Bare Minerales foundation for my make-up.)
Night: Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub every other day (the Neutrogena scrub that's supposed to go with this system made me break out), Neutrogena Acne Stress Power Foam Wash, this product, and then Neutrogena On-The-Spot treatment all over my entire face.
Everyone is different, so this might not work for you, but I hope you find something that does. Good luck!

I'm just devastated that this is so hard to find-I tried contacting Neutrogena directly, and they just sent me a stock response. It's the only thing that takes care of my adult acne and doesn't totally dry out my skin. Neutrogena, bring it BACK!!!!Want Neutrogena Acne Stress Control, 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment, 2 Ounce Discount?
In addition to keeping my pores clear, this salicylic acid preparation has worked better than finacea (azelaic acid) at reducing my skin's (especially my nose's) redness, which is caused by rosacea. In fact, my red spells have virtually disappeared since I started using this product.Additionally, the acne stress control lotion is the only salicylic acid preparation I could find that does not contain significant amounts of alcohol, which irritates my skin. (Most preparations are solutions rather than emulsions or suspensions, and thus alcohol is required to dissolve the salicylic acid, which is not water soluble.)
Although this treatment isn't irritating or drying, it isn't especially hydrating; I still must use Cerave moisturizer afterward. However, I would much rather use a non-moisturizing treatment and then add my preferred level of moisture on top, than use a treatment that is too heavy.
My only complaint is that fragrance is added. It's unnecessary, and potentially irritating.
