Salon Grafix Spray Powder Shampoo 4 oz (112 g)

Salon Grafix Spray Powder Shampoo, For Black Shades 4 ozI purchased this along with another brunette dry shampoo (made by Batiste) to compare to the brunette shade of the Bumble & Bumble brunette dry shampoo/hair powder that I really like but don't want to continue to pay big bucks for. I love this stuff by Salon Graphix, it smells great, it doesn't feel too dry, and it covers the thinning areas of my hair that I have been dealing with on and off for years. Yes, it will come off on your hands if you run your fingers through your hair, so beware, but so does the $33 a bottle Bumble & Bumble product. Since I do have fine hair, washing it daily is not great, but I do find that it does get greasy in between shampoos. Dry shampoo is a great alternative and saves tons of time. I love, love, love this product and highly suggest buying it if you have 1)thinning hair or 2) don't like the ashyness of non-colored dry shampoos.

As for the Batiste brunette dry shampoo, don't waste your money. It's terrible and looks grey.

I've used other brands of spray powder shampoo and this one, as a dry shampoo, stands up decently (hence the 2 stars instead of 1)--if only the aerosol spray mechanism actually worked! I bought two of these in one go (bad idea as one should never buy multiple items of an untested product) when I ran out of my normal brand, Batiste. The reason why I thought I'd make a switch is that Salon Grafix comes in different shades (I have black hair) whereas Batiste only comes in the standard white powder that someone with dark hair must make sure to brush out thoroughly. The first use of this product went smoothly. It has a nice scent and the only downside I initially discovered is that I had to use a bit more of it than I did the Batiste product in order to get the same freshly-washed feeling.

The second try? That's where the disastrous part comes in. I reached for the can and found that I could no longer depress the aerosol tip to dispense the powder. I noticed a black ring of residue in the groove between the sprayer and top rim of the can. I attempted to clean this out (as instructed on the can itself) by running it under a stream of water--but to no avail. So, I simply bit the bullet and threw the nearly full can into the trash bin and reached for my other, BRAND NEW can. I shook as directed, then started to spray away. Immediately, I knew something had gone awry as I could feel liquid drip on my hand and down my arm. I looked around me to find that the spray had malfunctioned somehow, and had thrown about large black dots of liquid everywhere in my bathroom! On the walls, on my white cabinets, on the floor -on my new skirt! I scurried like a madwoman, scrubbing the dots off my walls and cabinets and applying Spray 'n' Wash on my skirt. The skirt is in the washing machine right now as I type, and I was unable to get the stains completely off the cabinets and walls.

So--TWO malfunctioning cans within a single order resulting in only one use of the product and a stained bathroom? That's what I call unacceptable! I'm back to Batiste for good.

I have long and thick hair so to wash and dry it can take up to an hour. I thought I'd give this stuff a try since I have light brown hair and have tried PSSSSST before, but do not like the white powder it leaves behind. I normally wash my hair every other day because it get oily on the top, while the rest of it looks great. So with that said I just touch up my oily roots in the front and top and presto, fluffy again. Like other reviewers said it does not "feel" shampooed, but when you are pressed for time it's all about the look. Only you know it doesn't feel like it normally does. I recently went on 4 day trip and washed my hair the morning I left and brought my spray powder and touched up each morning. This saved me so much time that I was able to leave the hotel with just a quick shower and make up job. I did pack my shampoo, but no need. This would be handy for someone who is in a hospital setting and unable to wash their hair. Anyhow, I bought 3 other brands at the same time I ordered this and have yet to try the others. Those of you looking for some kind of miracle spray that is going to feel like you just washed your hair--well I think that is a long ways away.

UPDATE TO FIX A CLOG:

To fix a clog: use a quilting pin or straight pin and insert it directly into the cap/top where aerosol comes out. Remove the top and insert pin into the bottom of the cap where aerosol will go through (again on the same removed cap). Try moving pin around so it dislodges any dried up powder. Then lastly on the can itself, the fine tubing sticking up from the can, run the pin around in there to try to dislodge and dried up powder. By doing this you should have a clean, strong spray again.

Not sure why it does this, maybe needs to be shaken up well so it doesn't clump up or maybe some of the product is older? Who knows, but at least you can finish up the can without letting it go to waste.

I should have listened to the other reviewers about this product. I thought I would be the person to make it work despite jamming but that wasn't the case. I literally used it twice before it completely jammed. I tried removing the cap, rinsing it with warm water & using a pin to clear the openings but it refuses to work. Not to mention the 'black' is not really black. It's a dark grey. It's a terrible product. I would not recommend buying this to anyone.
