Dove Bar Soap, Sensitive Skin Unscented, 4 Ounce, 16 Count

Our baby daughter started suffering from either dermatitis or eczema a year ago just a red bumpy rash and unscented Dove was recommended by the pediatrician, pediatric dermatologist, and allergist. Unfortunately, they didn't know the manufacturer had changed the product formula. We really wish they had it would have saved her a year of terrible itching its new formula caused.

A change in formula to Alimentum resulted in dramatic improvement after a milk allergy was diagnosed. However, small raised red patches and intense itching that caused frantic scratching to the point of bleeding soon became major issues; we visited a second dermatologist atypical eczema was diagnosed.

Treatment until just a few days ago had been warm daily baths and unscented Dove, along with hydrocortisone 1% on spots and Cetaphil cream all over. Children's Zyrtec did not seem to alleviate the itching, although it did help her sleep. A prescription for Calcitrene did not help either. Only a physical barrier footed PJs with both zippers and snaps, kept her from picking at her skin constantly.

Quite by accident I used unscented Dove two weeks ago. I suddenly found myself having intense itching as well. Could it be that my daughter was allergic to Dove? It did make sense as Dove was used directly on her exposed areas, arms and torso, and she had her most intense and frantic itching episodes after her bath. We discontinued Dove immediately and her intense itching subsided overnight.

What I didn't understand was why I was suddenly was allergic to the new bars. After doing some research it turns out that Dove has discontinued the old Dove unscented bar along with the Dove for sensitive skin (the one with sweet almond oil itself an allergen) and combined them into one bar, Dove Unscented for Sensitive Skin. In so doing, it's changed its main surfuctant and other ingredients in other words, the Dove doctors have been recommended for years is no longer the same product.

An online search revealed complaints about itchiness and the new Dove. One website site in particular on the treatment of eczema has an enormous amount of information on detergents, soap and their effects on eczema especially the change in Dove soap. It no longer recommends it for eczema. Please see the comments section for more information.

Interestingly, itchiness and redness with the new formulation was brought up by a customer in Dove's own website and no solution is given other than Customer Service's phone number.

I've also found some mentions of another Dove ingredient, "Sodium tallowate" tallow, sometimes derived from cattle as sometimes causing a reaction in people with milk allergies, causing flare ups in acne and eczema. Whether this too caused an allergic reaction in our daughter, I don't know.

We thought our case was isolated. However, it's possible that the skin problems related to the new Dove may be more widespread. I hope this information helps as this change was done quietly by the manufacturer.

We also found sweet almond oil in the Cetaphil cream she was prescribed an allergen for anyone with a tree nut allergy. We stopped using it later and the remaining red raised patches she had also diappeared. Other changes that were recommended including a change to Tide Free it didn't help my daughter but it healed my red, cracked hands, the result of doing laundry 2-3x a day with All Free.

Granted, individual reactions to products vary but the new ingredients in Dove may be causing allergies rather than helping them. None of the three doctors consulted knew of the formula change in Dove nor realized that the "Dove + cetaphil" combo they were recommending were causing the very symptoms (itching and rash) they were trying to treat. It's possible parents may just assume it's ongoing eczema, just like they did. It may not be.

I have dermatitis and cannot really use any other soap. Dove leaves my skin soft and hydrated. Great value with "subscribe and save".

This soap is an okay product-used to be better but still ok. We agree with previous reviewer that formula has changed. It's not nearly as hypo allergenic now. Our one family member with very sensitive skin (several suffer from sensitive but mainly VERY dry skin) had to stop using due to a skin reaction with the new soap. Took us a while to figure it out. I'm sure that doesn't make us sound very smart but our family has been using this soap for a long time & it didn't occur to us that they would have/did change the formula so suddenly without letting customers know.

BUT the main point here is $30 for 16 bars is crazy. It's about $15 for 14 bars at Sam's Club. You can even pick it up on sale,usually in a 2 or 4 pack, at the grocery store for about $1-$1.25/bar.

So if you use this very much, pick it up at Sam's club. If you don't have a membership you can usually try it for a day & just pay a 5% surcharge (a whopping 75 cents in this case)-if you use 2-3 packs of this a year the savings will pay for your Sam's club membership. If you don't use this very much and just want to test it out on your skin, pick up a couple bars when its on sale at your local store and you'll still pay less per bar this this "deal".

Since using this soap, I have had much fewer issues with my skin, it cleans well and gets rid of oily build-up without being abrasive. It also lathers very nice. Very happy.

I am a 71 year old male and I have been using Dove soap for approximately 40 years. However, I recently noticed that in the past year the weight of a bar of Dove soap has been reduced by .25 ounces. In addition, the rich creamy lather that I enjoyed in the past is different. The creaminess has diminished somewhat. Japanese clay and charcoal facial soap

This is unlike any soap I've tried before, a subtle, pleasant difference. The scent is mild and natural and goes away pretty quickly. I like how my face feels smooth for a while after using this, without getting too dry. I have mild breakouts of acne, and I alternate using this soap and my regular face wash, just to mix up my regimen. I can't say my acne has improved, except this soap seems to slightly smooth and soothe my face. I would say it's best quality is it makes my skin feel smoother for a while.

I think it does a good job of cleaning the skin, but it probably won't get rid of my acne. Maybe I should use it everyday, but I seem to be clearest when I alternate products.

I cut the bar in half and gave half to my younger brother, and he said he likes it, enough to use it everyday, which is good, because I paid 11 bucks for the soap. I guess that is a good price for an imported charcoal soap.

I once tried a charcoal soap made in the states before, and it was slightly irritating, probably the fragrance or perhaps it was the type of charcoal. I paid around 6 bucks for that. I like this one better.

Yes, I like this product, it cleans my face very well but my face is still oily so I need to find another product the will really lessen the oil.

I prefer a good bar of soap over liquid cleansers to wash my face with. I am very impressed with this soap. It creates a rich lather, rinses clean, and removes makeup, even mascara. After I use it my face feels smooth and exfoliated, even though there is no grit whatsoever in the soap or lather. It doesn't leave my face feeling dry or tight. I intend to purchase it again, and I may have found my perfect cleanser.

At first I found them to be aggressively fragrant (especially the morning refresh ones). I'm usually turned off or even irritated by products with strong smell/perfume component. Didn't even think these particular wipes would work. However, after a few regular uses I have found my skin to be glowing and clearer and smoother. The evening wipes are calmer and less disturbing, as expected. I have also used Pond's pore cleansing strips in the past and liked them as well, so I havent really been disappointed in Pond's name. I would, however, prefer if Pond's cleaned up (pun intended) the content of their product, as it seems most or at least many contain chemicals/unnatural additives. Which I'm not a fan of, as I usually buy personal care items that are either organic or mostly natural. Overall though, a great product, you will be glad you tried it. I first used the Rebalancing Facial Cleanser after having my second child and hormones were making my skin very unpredictable. I grew up with terrible eczema and very sensitive skin, unable to use many make-up and skin care products. Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer, 2.5 oz.

I felt this product was a good facial sunblock, but it wasn't what I hoped it would be. I was looking for a daily moisturizer that contains sunblock. This product smells like sunblock and acts like it too.

After wearing it outdoors I felt the need to clean my face off since dirt seemed to be catching in it. This stuff sat on my skin, just like cheap sunblock. I had higher hopes for this Aveeno product.

I used this product for the first time last night. It makes my skin soft and feels fresh. It is different than what I am used to because of the thickness of the cream. I have eczema on my face that I can't even get rid of with medication...but it seems to be soothing that. So I think I will keep using it.

It's supposed to be a daily moisturizer and sunscreen (30 spf I think it was?), and it also has a light scent that I'm not really sure how to describe but smells nice! :D

The moisture makes my face feel very smooth and the sunscreen works good enough for me without feeling all thick and pancakey, I would know it works cause I burn easily but not with this stuff on and I have an oily face so it's hard to find stuff that isn't pancakey.

I love this and will def keep using it!

I love this moisturizer. I'm excited to have found a cheaper alternative to my Dermalogica Smoothing Cream which can get fairly expensive. As an added bonus, this product contains an SPF of 30, which my previous moisturizer didn't. Yes, there is a fragrance to it. It's a fresh/clean scent, which may bother some who are sensitive but I found it quite pleasant. It's a THICK moisturizer. I have combination/dry skin and it works well for me. I use less than half a pump (I'm assuming I use about a 1/3 to a 1/4 of a pump) for my face and the container is large so I'm sure it'll last a long time.

I tried the 15 count package and liked it so much I decided to buy this towelette in bulk. Unfortunately, this bigger package differ in 2 ways. The towelettes are slightly smaller in size. Plus, there's not enough cleanser in the package. The towelettes are not moist enough and feel a little too dry to wipe with. I had to moisten them a bit with water.

Gets the job done...removes almost all of my make up. I say almost only because after wiping with the towelettes and washing my face I also use Tend Skin on my chin and that has alcohol in it which gets EVERY dirt on the skin off. Another bonus of this items on Amazon and at Wal-Mart is that you get a lot for your money and the product does a great job at remove make up.

Biore cleanser is my all time favorite and I've used all the high end to low end cleansers. It's like a party on my face. You can feel the toner working as you wash. And b/c it's self foaming you're not wasting a ton of product.

I like it because it's slightly foamy, gentle (I have acne prone, sensitive skin), but dissolves your makeup like nobody's business. Pomega5 Green Tea Balancing Cleansing Bar

I received a sample bag with the tiny bar inside and it was instantly hooked. I bought my 1st bar a few months ago and I am making my second purchase as soon as I complete my review. I usually don't provide feedback, but I had to chime in after seeing the low rating. Anyhow, I use it at least once a day and my face has never been irritated. My husband even LOVES it as a matter of fact he's the one who warned me that the bar was almost invisible, lol. I do suggest applying the moisturizer after washing it does a really good job at cleaning and the moisturizer produces a lovely glow and is the scent is perfectly balanced. Yeah, I know it's a bit pricey but it goes a long way..I am still using the small trial size that came with the sample pack after all this time. If you are skeptical start with that. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I love the way this soap smells. It is amazing and so far I am using it instead as a sachet in a drawer instead of as a face wash. I used the soap a couple times. The first time my skin felt OK but the second and third time it started feeling itchy, so I stopped using it. I noticed that there were black sediment kind of things inside the soap and started wondering if it could be mold, especially because this is an all natural type of product. I called the company and they said the owner was away and they could not answer my question, (as to if the fact that there are black things in the soap was normal). There is nothing listed on the ingredients that would make sense for it to be: no leaves or herbs, etc, only essential oils. I left my phone and email and never got a response back.

I have really oily skin and have random big cystic bumps occur. A friend encouraged me to try this. I definitley noticed about 60% reduction of oil in my pores but because my skin is very sensitive and hormonal acne I had to use anotehr scrub once a week along with an oral medication.....it definitley helps but if you have strong skin probleme you will still have to use something else. I will say it's in my 2 best cleansers for my face in terms of getting rid of oil and trying to prevent the acne.

Let me begin by telling you I have shoulder length naturally curly hair which frizzes out to a mop the minute it hits any humidity. I spent highschool and college hours and hours trying to tame it. Most recently using a straightener daily but if I should get it wet by weather or workout it would just start frizzing and curling again. And yes, I have tried leave in products that promise no frizz.

I was going to ask a friend to help me apply the mixture and straighten my hair with the straightener but no one was avaialble so I did it myself. Here's what happened:

Application was fairly easy except I noticed caustic fumes that irritated my throat and eyes. Once I coated my whole head of hair I decided to spend the next 40 minutes of wait time outside as I felt very affected by the fumes.

Once wait time was over I blew dry the lotion in my hair which again stirred up the fumes. I kept putting my face near an open window as my eyes and throat were extrememly affected.

I then partitioned my hair as directed and used my straightener at 450 degrees. I made sure that I went over areas several times and tried very hard to make sure I got everything very straight. During this procedure my hair did give off smoke and fumes and at times caused me to need to put a towel over my face. Still....I was almost done.

I waited the full 72 hours before I washed my hair and conditioned with the included conditioner and then again with my own to make sure it got plenty of remoisturizing.

I brushed my wet hair out, no blow dry, no touch ups.

I woke up the next day and not only was my hair extrememly straight, it was the shiniest and softest it has been in a long time. I went to work and even got comments. I don't know how long it will last but if it lasts 2 months I may suffer the process again.

I have had my hair straightened in the salon with the Japanese process and it took a year to overcome the damage and took $200 out of my pocket. This was much less. I would recomend wearing a scarf or mask over your mouth and nose to avoid the fumes, though.

I bought this online after spending $350 at the salon for a Keratin treatment. After doing a ton of research, I found that the worst damage I could do, would be a really hot hair straigtening so I decided to give it a shot. This product worked fantastic! It got my natural wavy hair straight, thicker, and fuller. I don't even have to blowdry it. It takes a while, and is good for a Sunday afternoon. It's worth every penny for those extra hours of sleep from lack of having to do my hair. It even holds the curl better when I want to make waves with a curling iron.

I used this instead of paying $250 to get a salon Brazilian blowout, and I thought it worked really good. I have short hair, which may have helped, but I just followed the instructions and made sure I had a flat iron that gets to at least 450 degrees. I used it about 4 weeks ago, and my hair is just starting to get wavy again. I wash my hair every day and also swim, so I think you could prolong the results by washing your hair less often. All in all I thought it gave me a good result and I will purchase again.

I bought this and used it for about 4-treatments.

I am african american and for my hair it lasts about a month.

It doesn't get as straight as when I went to the salon, but it was doable.

I don't like the idea of using this every month and have purchased another product.

The first time I followed the instructions and washed my hair, then dryed and then applied.

It only lasted about 3 weeks.

The 2nd, 3rd & 4th time, I did it like my salon and applied it after I rinsed out the shampoo and then dryed my hair.

These lasted longer, but I have ordered another product to see if it will last longer (3-months like the salon).

I used this product for the first time at the end of August. I actually saw a big difference in my hair, it was really shinny and soft. It reduced the frizziness of the hair and it doesn't get as puffy as it did before. But the results only lasted about 3 weeks and the product says that the results could last up to 3 months. I did read that the more you use the product the longer the results are and the better the results get. So we'll see how it goes. I recommend this product if you are looking for an alternative for an expensive brazilian blowout!

Charcoal Natural Material Body Towel by OHE

I've used it 3 times and I decided to put it away, it's simply too soft for me. The first time (well, all 3 times to be exact) I used it, once I was done I actually grabbed my old scrubbie and washed myself again, because I simply felt I was not clean enough. It also doesn't lather very well so I had to use tremendous amount of shower gel. I rather stick to my other Japanese bath towel (Salux pink one)it lathers very well, removes much more dead skin cells then this one, dries very fast and is cheaper!

This one would probably be good for children. And I also have to say that I like the color, but when it comes to removing dead skin cells, it is simply not good enough!
